I seen this quite often – while performance is important companies look for personality matched to the company. Team players, people who don't upset the applecart as it were and these items in many cases overshadow performance. You really do not pose a question, you have made more of a statement, but I do agree, but not only in the nineties, but throughout the 20th and 21st century we have been plagued with the latest "management techniques". We have seen 'gurus' come and go and write books, do tapes, lectures and the full gamut of what I call superfluous bull sh.t. The latest being this "six sigma" management, wow what a crock of bull this is. When companies realize that people not product are the most important asset then they will start to really prosper, make profit and have happy employees and customers. Good examples are:
The demise of General Motors and Ford also Chrysler versus the Japanese manufacturers who value their people.
The Enron scandals
The loss of the steel industry in the USA
The loss of health and pension benefits
The outsourcing of jobs because they are cheaper. People suffer but the rich get richer.

This country is going to hell in a hand basket because we have forgotten our people and valued our money instead.
